Since the summer of 2019, Place de la République in the Bas-Montreuil (lower-Montreuil) neighbourhood has been undergoing major work to redevelop its central square. The overall goal of the project is to improve the quality of life in the area. Before initiating the transformation, the City of Montreuil engaged in a process of consultation with local residents and experimented with different uses: pedestrianization of a lane, removal of the fences from the square, installation of new street furniture, etc.
The City called on the services of Quatorze, with assistance from YesWeCamp and Remake to carry out these temporary developments. The team proposed the project during a public debate session and soon after, a week-long construction site was organized. In June 2018, a dozen volunteers came to help carry out the work: a 100m2 wooden terrace offering relaxation areas, a picnic table, a bench, a large urban counter space sheltered under a pergola, a small area for petanque, and a ping-pong table.
