1 shantytown, 200 inhabitants, 0 sanitary facilities
After 5 months of mediation with the inhabitants of La Plaine du Chanteloup, consultation with sanitation experts, and 2 days of work, 30 dry toilets divided into five small buildings were installed in the shantytown. Each of the structures contains a rain barrel as well as a storage space for sawdust, the weekly supply of which is now taken care of by Secours Catholique des Yvelines and the RomYvelines collective.
The co-construction weekend encouraged the dynamics of appropriation initiated by mediation and co-design. Assisted by a team of 40 enthusiastic volunteers and building supervisors, the families assembled the structures prefabricated in Quatorze’s workshop and built customized furniture.
Maintenance monitoring and health assessment are carried out by Nita Chaudhuri, an expert in environmental health education.
